BRAND LAB WEEKLY ADVICE

When diving into the world of business, individuals often find themselves in two distinct categories - operators and ideators.

Operators: Excel in efficiently running the business, ensuring tasks are completed, boxes are checked, and systems are managed

Ideators: people contribute through visionary thinking, creativity, and scope expansion.

As an emerging fashion entrepreneur, it's crucial to be proficient in both realms, regardless of where you think you naturally gravitate - and you very well may comfortably fit in both categories.

In the competitive landscape of the fashion industry, where many businesses face challenges, striking a balance between operational efficiency and creative vision is key. Your proficiency in numbers is as vital as your design skills, and effective marketing is on par with analytical insights. While it may seem daunting to wear multiple hats, whether through partnerships or outsourcing, maintaining a healthy equilibrium between action and knowledge across all areas is paramount. Success isn't just about completing tasks within your comfort zone; it's about tackling challenges that may not align with your natural inclinations. So, remember to tick all the boxes to emerge on top.

BRAND REVIEW

For our weekly Index Brand Review, we took a look at Insult + Injury , an emerging streetwear brand threading principles of perseverance and faith into their garments.

Insult + Injury was founded in 2020 by Yardee, who started the brand for a myriad of reasons including but not limited to pursuit of entrpenuerial spirit and building a legacy. The brand’s narrative centers around notions of humanity, in particular "THE MARK OF A MAN" and different perspectives on constructions of identity in the modern world. With four capsules under their belt, they’re just getting started as the burrow deeper into their concepts.

Insult + Injury makes its name known through its innate rallying cry - calling to those who dare to question and overcome. It’s an enticing proposition, especially within the fashion industry in which a clear and strong message is sometimes hard to come by.

  • The brand is not lacking in its literary concepts, with an abundance of possible ideologies to draw from, simply tracing each design to its root meaning is enough to weave a plentiful story. Their visual presentation also improves over time - utilising high-quality multimedia formats to showcase products and the people behind them.

  • What would be interesting to see more is the direct correlation between the beliefs and ideologies that drive the brand and their storytelling. At the moment, the products and marketing point to notions of heritage, faith, and culture - but the marketing may benefit from a clearer embuing of the overarching narrative that leads to the specific designs.

Thank you Insult + Injury for your submission, and for being part of the Index community! We’re all so excited to see your journey continue.
